What DirectTube Does
DirectTube turns your YouTube subscriptions into a live, cable-TV-style experience. You sign in with your Google account, and we read your subscriptions and playlists to build a personalized video feed.
Data We Access
We request read-only access to your YouTube account via the youtube.readonly scope. This lets us:
- Fetch your subscribed channels
- Fetch your playlists
- Fetch video metadata (titles, durations, thumbnails)
We cannot modify, upload, delete, or interact with any content on your YouTube account. Access is strictly read-only.
Data We Store
We store the following in our database, linked to your Google account ID:
- Custom feed configurations you create (feed names, selected channel/playlist IDs, duration filters)
We do not store your email address, Google password, YouTube watch history, comments, likes, or any other personal YouTube data. OAuth tokens are held in an encrypted session cookie and are never persisted to our database.
Third-Party Services
DirectTube is hosted on Vercel and uses a Vercel-managed Neon Postgres database. Video playback is handled directly by YouTube's embedded player. We do not share your data with any other third parties.
Data Deletion
You can delete any custom feed at any time from the dashboard. To fully remove your data, delete all your feeds and revoke DirectTube's access from your Google account permissions.
